The streets around Hollywood Road are worth exploring. Pottinger Street (west of Aber-
deen, parallel to Cochrane Street), named after Hong Kong's first governor, is known in
Chinese as 'stone slab street' for the steps laid down in the 1840s to make it easier for ped-
estrians and sedan chair bearers to reach Hollywood Road, the second road built in the city.
Today it is lined with stalls and shops selling haberdashery, clothes and fancy dress outfits
and accessories.
Continue up the escalator past Hollywood Road and you'll arrive in SoHo with its cosy
bars and cafés, trendy restaurants and quirky boutiques. Set lunch menus are excellent value
here, while by night it is more laid-back than neighbouring Lan Kwai Fong and Wyndham
Street or TST's nightlife areas. North of Hollywood Road, NoHo centres around Gough
Street's tiny collection of galleries, restaurants, designer homeware and gift shops.
Step off the escalator at Caine Road to find two compact but informative museums.
