Hong Kong's role in shaping some of the revolutionary views of the Father of Modern Ch-
ina, who studied medicine in Hong Kong in the late 19th century. Outside, The Sun Yat-sen
Historical Trail marks out 12 significant sites from Sun's time. Many original buildings are
gone, but the trail gives an interesting perspective on this fascinating neighbourhood.
A few minutes' walk west along Caine Road is the Museum of Medical Sciences !

building was formerly the Pathological Institute, founded to combat a 19th-century 30-year
outbreak of bubonic plague. The laboratory is still intact and there are interesting exhibits on
the development of medical sciences in Hong Kong and the interface between Chinese and
Western medicine, plus a herb garden.
Follow Ladder Street down to Hollywood Road, lined with art galleries specialising
mainly in contemporary Asian art, and antique shops with an endless collection of Asian
ceramics, furniture, carpets, carvings, porcelain and bronze.
