3.5.1 Imagery
Imagery includes source or proxy versions of data i les containing records
of light and color at one or more frame rates. As we discussed in Chapter 1 ,
imagery can take the form of sequential i les or a video stream. In most cases
the i les and video stream can be transcoded one to the other with varying
degrees of visual i delity loss.
3.5.2 Metadata
Metadata is data about the imagery. EDLs can contain various metadata about
the 3D systems used to capture/acquire imagery as well as the conditions
under which imagery was captured. This metadata can include: distance to
subject, nodal point, entry pupil, toe-in angle, L/R iris setting, L/R zoom
lens setting, L/R focus setting, interaxial distance, convergence angle, and
many other factors. This information can help post teams troubleshoot issues
and/or assist visual effects teams in re-creating virtually the live action
environment. However, as Juan I. Cabrera advises in Section 2, just having
metadata for the sake of having it can waste resources. Make sure you need
the metadata you are asking for and that it will help your show.
3.5.3 Scripts
3D has scripts containing description of the action, dialogue and other
storytelling factors just as 2D shows. There is little difference between a
