In-Depth Information
story script for a 2D show and that of a 3D show, other than more detailed
explanations of the action to account for Z-Space. The most important script
in 3D, however, is the depth script—which is description of the “depth story”
that takes place as the visual story takes place. This may be a few jotted
notes or detailed scene-by-scene descriptions of depth. We will learn more
about depth scripts in Chapter 5 —Depth. The editorial team needs to be as
versed in the depth script as they are with the story script.
3.5.4 Workl ow Masters
An editorial workl ow master is a current edited or conformed version of
the show. These assets are known as Edited Master and Conformed Master,
respectively.
3.5.5 Edit Decision Lists
As in 2D, a 3D EDL is metadata indicating the spatial and temporal changes
made to imagery by the editorial team. Each event in an EDL corresponds
to a specii c edit point and vice versa. EDLs are critical to 3D workl ows
because they identify exactly which frames of imagery (as proxy or source)
teams need to work on. After all, there is no point in spending resources
working on imagery that teams do not use in the i nal show. Determining
the formats and specii cations for cuts and EDLs is part of the work of the
managing team. 3D shares common EDL formats and layouts with 2D shows:
• Xtensible Markup Language (XML)
• ASCII Text
• Advanced Authoring Format (AAF)
3D EDLs can contain a variety of information such:
• Event number
• L source i le name
• R source i le name
• L record i le name
• R record i le name
• L source frame IN identii er (e.g., timecode stamp)
• L source frame OUT identii er
• R source frame IN identii er
• R source frame OUT identii er
• L record frame IN identii er
• L record frame OUT identii er
• R record frame IN identii er
• R record frame OUT identii er
