In-Depth Information
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS Wedge salad: one quarter head of iceberg lettuce with
Gorgonzola-cheese dressing and maple bacon.
SUMMARY AND COMMENTS Right around the corner and down the street from Morton's,
JW's actually serves a better steak in a nicer room with better service. The room is abso-
lutely stunning (ask for the cozy, private nook behind the fireplace), the meat nearly flaw-
less, and the service sharp and warm. The trick is to catch the restaurant open: the hotel
closes it when occupancy falls, so operating hours can be erratic.
Luigi's D'Italia
801 S. State College Blvd., Anaheim; 714-490-0990; italianoc.com
Reservations Recommended. When to go Lunch or dinner. Entrée range $7-$26. Service
. Friendliness . Bar Wine and beer. Dress Casual. Disabled access Yes. Hours
Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, noon-10 p.m.
SETTING AND ATMOSPHERE Classic tacky Italian, reminiscent of just about every neigh-
borhood mom-and-pop pizzeria in America (think faux grapevines, funky murals, and
Chianti-bottle candleholders). But there is something homey and comforting in this (you
probably have a place just like this in your hometown), and the service is generally warm
and friendly.
HOUSE SPECIALTIES Better-than-average hand-tossed pizzas with all the familiar toppings
(pepperoni, mushroom, sausage, and such); a very tasty (and hearty) eggplant Sorrentino.
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS The pastas, including a superb spaghetti Bolognese, are
commendable.
SUMMARY AND COMMENTS When the pocketbook can't take another huge hit no matter
how good the menu looks, head to Luigi's. Old-fashioned Italian fare, a welcoming (if
kitschy) ambience, and friendly smiles await. The pizzas and pastas, Italian staples, are
all familiar, hearty, and tasty, if not overly generous in their portions. The kids will love
watching the pizzas get tossed, and your credit card will breathe a sigh of relief.
