À Table VII, Wesselényi utca 9 atable.hu ; map . One of a chain of French-style cafés
that are an excellent place to start the day. Delicious coffees, sandwiches and pastries - the
pistachio croissants are mouth-watering - and you can also get delectable bread for picnics.

Chocodeli VI, Csengery utca 48 facebook.com/chocodeli.bonbondiveki ; map . A small
café with just a couple of tables just across the road from the House of Terror and a few doors
along from the Hunyadi tér market hall. Its raison d'etre is of course chocolate - served in
drinks and cakes - but they also serve very good coffee and soft drinks such as home-made
lemonades. Daily 8am-8pm.
CoffeeCat VI, Ó utca 44 1 708 0170 coffeecat.hu ; map . One of the cheapest and friend-
liest of the new cafés, with delicious coffee, a wide selection of good teas and great sand-
wiches and baguettes with unusual fillings. Mon-Fri 7.30am-4pm, Sat 8am-8pm.
EcoCafé VI,Andrássyút68; map . Welcominglittleorganiccaféwithsweetlittlecountrified
tables and cushioned seating, serving up a small selection of very reasonably priced sand-
wiches, salads and cakes; it also does a nice line in freshly baked breads. Mon-Fri 7am-8pm,
Sat & Sun 8am-8pm.
Fröhlich VII, Dob utca 22 1 266 1733; map . Excellent kosher patisserie 5min walk from
the Dohány utca synagogue, with sweet wrought-iron garden-bench-like seating and red and
orange painted walls. Specialities include the best flódni (apple, walnut and poppyseed cake)
in the city. Mon-Fri 9am-4pm, Sun 10am-6pm; closed Sat & Jewish holidays.
Mai Manó VI, Nagymező utca 20 1 269 5642; map . One of the more agreeable spots
in the theatre quarter, this small café underneath the Mai Manó Photography Museum retains
a cutesy interior with patterned tables and images splayed across the walls, as well as a con-
vivial outdoor terrace. A perfect place to stop, either for a pastry and breakfast or a late-night
drink. Daily 10am-1am.
Művész VI, Andrássy út 29 1 352 1337; map . There's an air of faded grandeur in this cof-
fee house that's as notable for its decor - deep leather seating, chandeliers and gilt - as it is
for its coffee and cakes. Mon-Sat 9am-10pm, Sun 10am-10pm.
My Little Melbourne VII, Madách Imre út 3 0670 394 7002, mylittlemelbourne.hu ;
map & map . Superb artisan coffee made by award-winning - but not always the most cheery
- baristas, and excellent pastries make this a perfect place for a quick breakfast. Inspired by
their Australian travels, Dia and Peti were pioneers when they opened this minuscule place
- if you want to sit, there is a small gallery with a few tables. Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, Sat-Sun
8am-5pm.
