Beef Island Guest House Staying at this little inn is like joining in a house
party. You can sit out and chill out, enjoying the trade winds blowing in from Trellis
Bay. This little B&B is on a small island reached by a bridge from Tortola. (This is the
same island that the airport is on.) In a converted cottage, it offers only a handful of
private rooms and a communal living room. In front is a swimming area, but a good
beach lies a short walk away. The rooms are comfortable and cozy, with ceiling fans
and private bathrooms with showers. All of the accommodations share a large veranda
with a panoramic view of the bay. Next door is a casual beach bar and restaurant
serving banana pancakes in the morning, homemade burgers at lunch, and nightly
specials such as grilled fish, fried chicken, or spicy baby back ribs.

Hotel Castle Maria This inn sits on a hill overlooking Road Town Harbour, just a
few minutes' walk from the center of Road Town. The lush, tropical garden out front
is one of the most beautiful in the British Virgin Islands. An orchard produces avoca-
dos, mangos, and bananas, which guests can enjoy. Rooms are basic, but offer reason-
able comfort, with balconies, patios, and kitchenettes. The hotel is a 10- to 15-minute
taxi ride away from the nearest sands.

Icis Vacation Villas In a setting planted with coconut palms, this vacation retreat
stands in close proximity to Brewer's Bay Beach. The grounds are lushly landscaped.
Accommodations are varied, but the best unit is a romantic honeymoon suite. A
deluxe one-bedroom suite, however, has two double beds. All the units, except the
villa, have both air conditioning and ceiling fans; each unit opens onto a patio or
porch. These apartment units are located in a tranquil part of the island. There are
no room phones, but an on-site pay phone is available.

The Jolly Roger Inn In high-priced Tortola, this little inn is a haven for the
frugal traveler. This small harborfront hotel is located at Soper's Hole, a breath away
from the ferry dock to St. Thomas and St. John. The accommodations are clean and
very simple. The small rooms are comfortably and pleasantly decorated, but only two
have a private bathroom. There's no air-conditioning in some units, but all the rooms
do enjoy the sea breeze. The atmosphere is fun, casual, and definitely laid-back; the
restaurant is a good place for dinner (p. 214) or a night out (p. 222). The beach at
Smuggler's Cove is a 20- to 30-minute walk over the hill.
