In-Depth Information
Figure 6-1. Part N needs six holes drilled: five on its face and one on its edge.
One of the first things to notice is that the three smaller holes on the face of Part N are spaced using
a measurement of degrees and a distance from the larger hole centered between the three small holes.
(These holes are used to fasten the flange of a nut to this piece. If you have the nut handy, this is an
alternative to marking the holes if you don't have a full-scale version of the plans.) We'll leave it up to
you to decide how you wish to mark these on your Part N piece for drilling, but we can tell you that it was
easier for us to drill these holes by simply taking accurate measurements from the building plans that
were printed at actual size.
When the building plans are printed at actual size, you can take a ruler (with 32 nds of an inch
increments) and actually measure out the center points of the holes to be drilled. Figure 6-2 shows a
close-up of both the plans (printed at actual size) and Part N prior to drilling the holes. Notice that we've
used a pencil to draw accurate lines on Part N. We've also written (in pencil) some of our measurements
of the holes on the plans themselves.
