poly chains if you don't have any that
overlap. (If there's nothing to merge
and you leave it enabled, it's possible
that Modeler will crash.)
16. Click OK , and there you go!
17. Repeat the process for the bottom lid,
mirror both sets of lashes across the
head, and you're done.
18. Take them into Layout, apply SasLite ,
and render to see how they look.
Tweak if necessary. You know the drill
by now!
Eyelash Settings and Refinements
The values I used are shown in Figure
20-70. Coarseness and Frizz are high
because these tiny chains make very fine
hair and lashes look more realistic to me if
they aren't too straight. A high Lock Width
spreads them out more around the guides,
both vertically and horizontally, so they
don't have the all-lined-up look of artificial
lashes.
For close-ups, or more realistic lashes,
you can add points to the rails where you
want them to grow more thickly. (Do this
before you copy them to make the trim
curves, of course, to save work.) Then
clone using Knots, not Length, to get a
more realistic distribution of lashes.
You might also want two sets of guides,
one on top of the other, if you need
extra-heavy lashes, such as in a
glamour shot, where you want the
model to appear “made up.” That
will enable you to control the length
and clump size more easily.
