11. When you are pleased with them, put
them in the background and open a
new foreground layer. (The fastest way
to do that is to click on another layer as
the background, and then Invert
Layers using the < ' > (single quote)
key.)
12. Draw a third curve, in the shape you
want the lash to have, and orient it so
that it appears to grow from the outer
corner of the eyelid. Match it to the
curves as closely as you easily can,
with the diamond that shows where the
lash curve starts placed behind the
curve into the eyelid. (It doesn't have
to be exact, but close is nice.) If you
need to readjust the “trim” curve, then
do so. (See Figure 20-67.)
13. After you are happy with all three
curves, put the lash curve layer in the
foreground, and the layer with the lid
and trim curves in the background.
Then go to Multiply | Duplicate:
More | Rail Clone… to open the Rail
Clone: Multiple panel. (See Figure
20-68.)
14. Choose whether you want to make
clones by Length (evenly spaced) or
Knots (weighted according to where
the points are in the lid and trim
curves), choose Uniform so you can
determine how many clones there will
be, and type in the number of lash
guides you want, minus one. (You
already have one, remember.) Leave
Oriented and Scaling both enabled, so
the lash will change orientation and
size as it conforms to the rails, and
click OK .
Presto! Perfect lashes, all set to go. But
they are curves, and you need poly chains
with roots. Fortunately, there is a plug-in for
that called CurveToPolychain, written by
Terry Ford. (In fact, there's more than one,
but this is the best I'm aware of. It's avail-
able for both Mac and PC. Thanks to
Richard Brak for compiling the Mac ver-
sion, and to Terry for allowing us to use it
in this topic.) You can find it on the CD in
Plugs_n_Programs. A number of other
useful plug-ins are available at http://

plugins.shtml.
