8 Getting There & Away
Daily bus services are run by InterCity ( Click here ) , north to Auckland (five hours) via
Hamilton (three hours), and south to Palmerston North (four hours). The buses arrive and
depart outside Ski Haus ( 07-892 2854; www.skihaus.co.nz; cnr Carroll & McKenzie Sts), which
sells tickets, and those for the TranzScenic ( www.tranzscenic.co.nz ) train, which passes
through on its way between Auckland and Wellington.

Turangi

Once a service town for the nearby hydroelectric power station, sleepy Turangi's claim to
fame nowadays is as the 'Trout Fishing Capital of the World' and as one of the country's
premier white-water-rafting destinations. Set on the Tongariro River, the town is a shortish
hop for Tongariro National Park trampers.
