This ap-
pealing boutiquey hotel at the western end of town has 55 tastefully decorated rooms,
each with balcony or terrace, air-con, comfortable beds and modern bathroom. It has a
small, clean pool and a nice beach area fringed by palm trees. Suites and deluxe suites are
also available.

Trapeze, kickboxing,
physical therapy camp, a half pipe for skateboarders, certainly not your standard hotel of-
ferings. Then again, this ecologically minded, solar-powered and self-described 'upscale
hostel' is meant for those seeking an unconventional beach holiday. No TVs and no air-
con in the spacious and simply furnished fan-cooled rooms. Mojito Bar, a popular restaur-
ant, has a location here.
Families and groups should consider the huge three-bedroom, three-bathroom pent-
house that sleeps 10. All of the produce (even hard-to-find kale!) is either grown on the
property (using aquaponics) or on an organic farm in Los Brazos near Sabaneta de Yasica.
Attached and affiliated with the hotel is the kitesurfing school Go Kite Cabarete.

Budget-minded
kitesurfers should consider this place (a work in progress at the time of our visit), opened
in 2013 by a couple from Chicago. Clean and simply furnished rooms with new flatscreen
TVs are in a building set just off the road. While the inner courtyard and small pool are
ordinary, the beachfront deck is to be prized. There are close to a dozen units, which are
more like one-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and sea-facing balconies. Cash and
Paypal only.

If a
beachfront location isn't a priority, then this small property down a dirt road 200m or so
from Playa Encuentro is a nice place to ensconce yourself - especially if you're a surfer.
