Designed with the discerning surfer in mind, Swell is far from a crash pad.
The spare clean lines, plush bedding, modern photographs and funky furniture say
'boutique', but the pool, ping-pong and foosball tables and social vibe suggest otherwise.
A huge wood communal table is the center of the hanging-out action.
Water, coffee, tea and bananas are always on hand and a self-serve bar means drinks are
available 24 hours. Week-long packages are available for those who want to learn how to
kitesurf or surf - internationally qualified instructors are on staff. Provides shuttle service
to Playa Encuentro and other spots. Airport transfers included in rates.

Distinguished by
boutique-style rooms and its location down a small lane at the relatively traffic-free east-
ern end of town, Velero is an excellent choice. True to its four-star rating in service, pro-
fessionalism and property maintenance, the Velero's only downside is it's on a small spit
of a beach, but the pool and lounge area more than make up for this.

Ultra-mod-
ern, quintessential Miami Beach (now in vogue in Cabarete), the Millennium is a swanky
beachfront property with a cool, if somewhat chilly, ambience. The spacious rooms are
furnished in a minimalist style and the infinity pool is especially nice. Some kinks and
management issues, however, were still being worked out when we visited.
