A handful of modern bungalow-style studio apartments with kitchenettes and attractive
wooden porches surround a quiet garden courtyard and small pool.
The new owners, a Swiss-American couple, have if anything improved upon the origin-
al. It also rents scooters, so you can get into town easily.
Agualina Kite Resort
( 809-571-0787; www.agualina.com ; Kite Beach; r US$80; ) Opened in 2004, this is the
most comfortable lodging on Kite Beach. Studios and apartments have stylish, well-
equipped kitchens - stainless-steel refrigerators are an especially nice touch - and large
modern bathrooms with glass showers and gleaming fixtures. There's free wi-fi
throughout the building.

Kite Beach Hotel

oceanfront hotel boasts well-appointed rooms with gleaming tile floors, good-sized bath-
rooms and satellite TV. All suites and apartments have balconies that afford at least partial
ocean views. The laid-back pool area makes a great place to watch the action in the sky
and on the water. An extensive breakfast buffet is also included in the rate.

Natura Cabañas
( 809-571-1507; www.naturacabana.com ; s/d incl breakfast US$153/212; ) Owned and de-
signed by a Chilean husband-wife team, this collection of marvelously designed thatched-
roof bungalows about halfway between Cabarete and Sosúa is the epitome of rustic chic.
Everything is constructed from natural materials - mahogany, bamboo and stone - and a
gravel path leads to a secluded beach. Two open-air restaurants serve exquisitely created
dishes (US$15 to US$30).
