In-Depth Information
Usually, along with the CAD plans and depending on the size of the project, we have
a landscape plan that shows where trees and other elements (if any) will be planted,
as shown in the following screenshot:
How can we translate this information from the CAD plan to Lumion? We will
not have problems with the CAD plan shown previously because there isn't much
information. However, with more complex projects we may need help and one easy
way is by using a dummy object that shows where each element is placed. A small
red cube can be used to represent a certain species of tree, while a blue cube can be
used to indicate a shrub. Then, the 3D model is imported and this information is
used as a visual aid to place the correct 3D models.
Another point that has been mentioned a few times in other chapters is the need for
using layers to organize our scene. And this is something that needs to be addressed
as soon we start placing content in the scene. Trees, shrubs, bushes, flowers, rocks, and
grass are in the same library and this means that when we select the Nature library to
tweak any of these 3D models, things can become really hard to manage because we
could easily pick or delete the wrong 3D model until it is too late to amend. Have a
look at the Using Lumion's Layers section in Chapter 2 , Creating a Project in Lumion .
With these points in mind, let's start adding content to our scene.
