The town's top
hotel
also makes a surprisingly
affordable place to eat over the chatter of boats - choose your seat carefully, as from some
tables you can see both mountain ranges at the same time, as well as the river. They spe-
cialize in “Shan tapas”; this sounds terrifying, but the end result is actually rather nice, and
the dishes (from K2000; you'll need at least three for any kind of feed) are served in a cute
canoe-shaped dish. Mains are more like K6000, while a big pot of coffee is yours for K2000.

DRINKING
Nightlife in Nyaungshwe is actually pretty good for a town of this size - though you can
forget about dancing, there's a pleasing variety of places to drink. Do note, however, that
everything's shut and shuttered by around 11pm.

so-so, this rooftop venue (connected to the
spa
of the same name) is, though west-facing, a
grand place for sunset cocktails (K3000).

Fresh-looking, two-level cocktail bar with long
happy hours (6-9pm), cheap drinks (cocktails from K1500) and fun staff. The atmosphere is
entirely dependent upon who's here on any particular night: it can be rocking one evening,
then near-silent the next.

KaungKaung

This local bar is one of very few local places selling
draught beer (K600); other choices include small bottles of local rum (K800) and, oddly,
Korean
soju
(K2500). The clientele swings between all-Burmese and majority-Western from
night to night, but whoever's doing the drinking it's usually one of the more raucous venues
in town.

foreigner-attracting magnet - they're there drinking every single night, and nobody really
