faint air of a colonial abode. The menu's almost entirely Thai - not completely authentic, but

er at around K2500. Try a larb salad - spiced, minced meat with shallots and mint. Though
the place fills up in the evening, it's actually a lovely, quiet spot for coffee during the day
(K2000 per pot, serves two). If you like it here, consider hitting their second venue when
making your rounds of Inle Lake . Daily 10am-10pm.
Inle Pancake Kingdom Win Quarter 081 209288. This place has been around since
the 1990s. It was originally a milkshake café, and these are still the best things on the menu
(from K1000); try their chocolate-banana shakes, made with von Houten cocoa if they've
beenabletosourcesomefromYangon.Thepancakesareprettygoodtoo(alsofromK1000),
with plenty of fruity, savoury and sweet options. Daily 7am-9pm.
LinnHtet YoneGyiRd 081209360. Friendly,deceptivelysimple-lookingrestaurantthat's
a favourite with foreigners and locals alike, on account of some incredibly filling curry sets.
Just K2500 will buy you curry, rice and sides, and if you can finish the lot you must have
been pretty hungry. Daily 8am-10pm.
Live YoneGyiRd 09428136964. Thissmalldimsumrestauranthasbeenagreataddi-
tion to the town, and is a little treat to tastebuds which have had one too many bowls of Shan
noodles. Try one of their platters (K3500), with a choice between fried or steamed dim sum;
there are also some good Chinese and Thai dishes on the menu. Daily 8am-9pm.
Sein Yadanar Museum Rd 095 514 8918. Local barbecue joint opposite the Paradise
hotel, with better fare than you'll find at the night market - perhaps apart from the mystery-
substanceAngryBirdssticks.TherestcostK100-300each;goforchickenstrips,quaileggs,
tofu blocks and more, or splash out on a grilled fish (K1500). Daily 2.30-9.30pm.
Shwe Dingar Off Main Rd 099 102 4411. If you fancy going local, you could do worse
than heading to this amiable teahouse. The tea (K250) is served with a platter of Chinese
dumplings, donuts, samosas and the like, though all of these cost a little extra. Open later on
weekends if there's football on TV. Daily 6am-7.30pm.
Thanakha Garden Tharzi St 094 2837 1552. The most pleasant venue for local food,
situated on a charming dirt track near the Paradise ; it's especially pleasant during the even-
ing, when lit by candlelight and illuminated parasols. The best Shan option is the fish; try
it served steamed, in a mildly spicy tomato sauce (K4500). International and fusion options
include veggie tempura in tamarind sauce (K2000), all-day breakfast (K3500) and good bur-
gers (K3500); they also have shisha pipes to puff on (K9000). Daily 11am-9.30pm.
