David Paul's Lahaina Grill NEW AMERICAN Kids are not only wel-
come, they are treated like sophisticated young ladies and gentlemen here. The
chic stylish restaurant—black-and-white tile floors, pressed tin ceilings, eclectic
1890s decor—is striking, and the bar, even without an ocean view, is the busiest
spot in Lahaina. And surprisingly enough, this gourmet eatery offers a great kids'
menu with kids' soup or salad of the day, fried chicken strips, corn dogs, or mahi
and shrimp, as well as desserts like ice cream and chocolate cake. The regular
menu will have you salivating, especially the signature items: tequila shrimp and
firecracker rice, Kona coffee-roasted rack of lamb, Maui onion-crusted seared
ahi, and kalua duck quesadilla.
127 Lahainaluna Rd. & 808/667-5117. Kids' menu, highchairs, boosters, crayons. Reservations required.
Main courses $25-$58; kids' menu $12-$15. AE, DC, DISC, MC, V. Daily 5:30-10pm. Bar daily 5:30pm-mid-
night.

Gerard's FRENCH When you need an adults' night out, head
for this romantic restaurant. The charm of Gerard's—soft lighting, Edith Piaf on
the sound system, excellent service—is matched by a menu of uncompromising
standards. After more than 2 decades in Lahaina, Gerard Reversade never runs
out of creative offerings, yet stays true to his French roots. A frequent winner of
the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, Gerard's offers roasted opakapaka with
star anise, fennel fondue, and hints of orange and ginger, a stellar entree on a
menu of winners. If you're feeling extravagant, the Kona lobster ragout with
pasta and morels promises ecstasy, and the spinach salad with scallops is among
the finest I've tasted. Gerard's has an excellent appetizer menu, with shiitake and
oyster mushrooms in puff pastry, fresh ahi and smoked salmon carpaccio, and a
very rich, highly touted escargot ragout with burgundy butter and garlic cream.
If you do bring the young ones, they have a kids' menu, where the most popu-
lar item is pasta.
In the Plantation Inn, 174 Lahainaluna Rd. & 808/661-8939. www.gerardsmaui.com. Kids' menu, high-
chairs, boosters, crayons. Reservations recommended. Main courses $30-$37; kids' menu $9.50 and up. AE,
