Capital Region Tourism: a public-private
partnership
Introduction
Established in 2002, Capital Region Tourism (CRT)
is one of four Regional Tourism Partnerships (RTPs)
operating in Wales, which are responsible for co-
ordinating many aspects of tourism development
and marketing in their areas. With its headquarters
in Cardiff, CRT is the lead body for tourism in
South East Wales, working in partnership with
public, private and not-for-profi t travel and tourism
organisations in the region.
Aims and objectives
CRT's stated purpose or mission is - “Through
genuine partnership working, to lead South East
Wales in fulfi lling its tourism potential as both the
essential gateway to Wales and a destination of world-class quality in its own right, in ways which bring clear,
lasting and increasing benefi ts to the resident communities and businesses of the regi o n.”

Its fi rst strategic objective is to oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of the Regional
Tourism Strategy for South East Wales, through co-ordinating the activities of individual partners and other
key stakeholders. Its second objective is to undertake specifi c tourism activities whic h help deliver the
strategy.
Structure and organisation
CRT has fi ve permanent members of staff, including its Regional Strategy Director. The work of the organisation
is controlled by a Board of Directors made up of local authority representatives and people working in
travel and tourism in the region. CRT is a company limited by guarantee, with no shareholders. It works
in partnership with all the local authorities in the region, which include Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport,
Bridgend and Blaenau Gwent, plus a broad spectrum of tourism, hospitality and leisure representatives from
across the area, including hoteliers and tourist attraction providers.
