Responsible Tourism
Introduction
This assignment is made up of a number of tasks which, when successfully completed, are designed to give
you suffi cient evidence to meet the Pass (P), Merit (M) an d Distinction (D) grading criteria for the unit. If you
have carried out the activities and read the case studies throughout this unit, you will already have done a
lot of work towards completing the tasks for this assignment.
Scenario
In your gap year before going to university to study Tourism Management you are working for a UK-based
tourism development consultancy that specialises in carrying out feasibilit y studies for new tourism projects
all over the world. You have been asked to work with Jim Edwards, one of t he junior consultants, on a project
concerning responsible tourism development. Jim wants you to carry out some research into the subject.
The project focuses on four main areas:
The impacts of tourism development;
The roles and objectives of agents of tourism development;
Strategies used to manage responsible tourism in destinations;
