Task 1
Glenda is the chai r of the local Chamber of Trade and has been asked to give a talk on business travel at the
chamber's next monthly meeting. She would like you to produce a PowerPoint presentation that she could
use at the meeting, in whi c h you should:
a.
Describe the current busine s s travel environment (P1). Your description should include the role of a
business travel agent, with n a med examples of the different types of business agents and the different
types of business travel.
b.
Describe business travel working pra c tices of different types of business travel agents (P2). You must make
sure that you cover - procedures and d o cumentation for selling products and services, global distribution
systems (GDS), commission levels, sale s targets, cost-saving techniques, promotional schemes, service
level agreements and working to the company and passenger profi le.
c.
Summarise business travel legislation, trade ass o ciations and licensing requirements (P3). Your description
should include information on the Data Protectio n Act and European Union Package Travel Regulations
1992.
This task is designed to produce evidence for P1, P2 and P3.
Task 2
John is going to an ABTA regional meeting at the end of the month to discuss key issues affecting business
travel agents. He has asked you to prepare a short written report in which you should:
a.
Review the current factors affecting business travel (P4). The factors reviewed should include the global
economy, technology and one other factor of current interest. For eac h factor, you must identify the effects
associated with it, such as changes to company travel budgets, decrease in sales for business travel products,
competition for the business traveller and the increase in the use of web- c onferencing companies.
b.
Explain how the three factors discussed in Task 2a are currently affecting the b usiness travel environment
and operational practices (M1). You should develop the information you prov i d e d when completing Task
2a to discuss the effects on working practices, related legislation and licensing requirements.
c.
Discuss the current business travel environment and how business travel agent s are responding to
current challenges (D1). You should use statistics and other published information to add depth to your
evidence.
These tasks are designed to produce evidence for P4, M1 and D1.
Task 3
To give you some experience in preparing itineraries for business clients, John would like you to use
appropriate brochures and internet resources to select, accurately cost and provide informati o n for two
business itineraries to meet the customer briefs shown below (P5). You must justify how the costs, the
itineraries and the information provided fully meet each of the customer briefs (M2).
