In-Depth Information
Press and television
users of tandtonline can download a tourism statistics
bulletin from www.tandtonline.co.uk .
Daily and weekly national, regional and local newspapers
often include features on UK destinations that may
have advertisements placed by tourism companies
in the area, e.g. hoteliers, activity centres, museums,
tourist attractions, etc. Popular UK destinations that
have large marketing budgets can afford to advertise
on TV, sometimes in partnership with holiday operators
in the area. Holiday programmes on TV are a good
source of information on UK destinations, since they
give an unbiased view of the quality and variety of
tourist facilities on offer. The travel trade press, i.e.
newspapers aimed at people working in the sector,
sometimes feature UK destinations, with facts on types
of accommodation available, travel routes, contact
details for local tourist offi ces, etc. Popular travel trade
newspapers include Travel Trade Gazette, Travel News
and Travel GBI , the only trade publication that focuses
exclusively on travel and tourism in Great Britain and
Ireland.

Timetables and destinations
guides
Individual airlines, ferry operators, cruise companies,
tour operators, rail companies and coach/bus operators
produce their own timetables to help travel agents and
members of the public plan journeys. Timetables are
available in printed form and many are published on
the internet, e.g. the UK National Rail Timetable.

As well as the guides produced by tourist boards and
resort areas, there are many commercial guides to UK
destinations available from bookshops. These include
guides produced by the motoring organisations and
publishers like Lonely Planet.
