By metro
A metro is under construction but seems
unlikely to achieve its 2013 opening date.
ACCOMMODATION
For most of the year, reasonably priced
hotel
rooms are fairly easy to find, especially in the busy area at the western end
of Egnatía. During the
International Trade Fair
(Sept) hotels are allowed to add a
twenty-percent surcharge
to the
standard rate. Low season runs from June to August, this being a business-oriented city.
The closest
campsites
, both run by EOT, are at the small resorts of Ayía Triádha (24km; bus #73) and Órmos Epanomís
(33km; #69); the latter is better, as is the beach there.

EATING
There is a wealth of interesting
places to eat
in Thessaloníki, from authentic tavernas and eclectic ouzerís to quite
sophisticated international restaurants. Areas particularly worth investigating are trendy
Ladhádhika
, near the port, and
the web of streets between
Syngroú
and Platía Athónos. Dozens of prominent bakeries,
zaharoplastía
and
souvladtzídhika
,
dotted all across town, provide a range of snacks and breakfast possibilities. All the places listed are within walking
distance, though to reach the Áno Póli establishments you may well choose to jump on the handy #23 bus.
