Determine the time zone and locale(s).

If the system connects to the Internet via a proxy server, determine the
hostname and port of the proxy server.
➤
Select the software group (End User, Developer, Entire Distribution, or
Entire Distribution plus OEM) and determine whether any packages
need to be installed or removed.

Determine the language used to install Solaris.
➤
Determine whether to use 32-bit and/or 64-bit support.
➤
Select the disks on which to install the Solaris software.
➤
Choose between auto-layout of file systems or manual configure during
installation. If you decided to lay out the file systems manually, deter-
mine which disk should be used for each file system and estimate their
sizes.

The following steps start the installation process on a system currently pow-
ered on:
1.
Insert the Solaris 9 Installation CD-ROM/DVD into the CD-ROM/
DVD drive and power off the system or press the Stop and A keys at
the same time to get the
ok
prompt.
2.
Boot the system by turning the power on. Or if the system is at the
ok
prompt, enter
boot cdrom
(even if you are using a DVD).
3.
The Installer program will prompt for the language to use.

The program searches the disk drives for a place to hold the installa-
tion software. After the location is confirmed, the software (mini-root)
is copied to the selected disk and the system reboots.
The graphical Web Start interface will automatically start after the system
boots. The install process continues with the configuration phase.
Configuration
After you start Web Start, you have to configure it. The previously identified
configuration information is entered step-by-step using a sequence of Web
Start graphical screens. In this sequence of screens, the next screen is typi-
cally displayed after you provide the required information on the current
screen and click the Next button.
After entering all the required configuration information, the install process
continues with the software installation phase.
