Old Consulate Inn B&B B&B$$$
( 360-385-6753; www.oldconsulateinn.com ; 313 Walker St; r $110-220; ) Another Queen
Anne masterpiece, this former residence of the German consul is a splendid eight-room
B&B adorned with the kind of authentic 19th-century decor that will leave you thinking
you've wandered into the pages of a Henry James novel. The only trouble is that you'll
want to linger here all day, sampling the breakfast, shooting balls in the pool room or re-
laxing in a hot tub set rather romantically in an outdoor gazebo.
Manresa Castle HISTORIC HOTEL$$$
( 360-385-5750; www.manresacastle.com ; cnr 7th & Sheridan Sts; d & ste $109-229; ) One
of Port Townsend's signature buildings has been turned into a historic hotel-restaurant
that's light on fancy gimmicks but heavy on period authenticity. This 40-room mansion
castle, built by the town's first mayor, sits high on a bluff above the port and is one of the
first buildings to catch your eye as you arrive by ferry. The vintage rooms may be a little
spartan for some visitors, but in a setting this grandiose it's the all-pervading sense of
history that counts. The most expensive room is in a turret.
Swan Hotel HOTEL$$$
( 360-385-6122; www.theswanhotel.com ; cnr Monroe & Water Sts; r from $140; ) Stay in
rooms in an eye-catching three-story mansion with impressive wraparound porches, or in
three well-decked-out one-story cabins close to the waterfront action. There's even a
penthouse suite.
