Festivals & Events
Port Townsend has a busy calendar of annual events. Nonprofit arts foundation Centrum
( www.centrum.org ) , based at Fort Worden State Park, sponsors an endless stream of arts
and music festivals and seminars, many held at the fort. Among the most popular are the
Festival of American Fiddle Tunes and Jazz Port Townsend, both in July. Contact Cen-

Victorian Days HISTORY
( www.victorianfestival.org ) In late March this unique festival offers an array of exhibits,
walking tours and craft workshops. Horses and carriages are dusted off, refined manners
are polished and half the town dons asphyxiating corsets or austere waistcoats to relive
the days when lamb-chop whiskers and handlebar mustaches were the height of fashion.

Palace Hotel HISTORIC HOTEL$

beautiful Victorian building is a former brothel that was once run by the locally notorious
Madame Marie, who did business out of the 2nd-floor corner suite. Each of the 15 rooms
is named after the woman who used to occupy it. Reincarnated as an attractive period
hotel with antique furnishings and old-fashioned claw-foot baths, the Palace's seediness
is now a thing of the past.
