In-Depth Information
(365 North Beach Rd, Eastsound; sandwiches $6-8; ) More popular with tourists than
with locals, Enzo's is however a great stop for a good cup of joe or scoop of gelati. If
you're just off the ferry, you can remind yourself that you're not too far from 'civiliza-
tion' with a creamy crepe or a filling panini while tweeting all and sundry on your laptop
(yes, the wi-fi's gratis).
Kitchen FUSION$
(249 Prune Alley, Eastsound; salads & wraps $8-15; 11am-7pm Mon-Sat; ) Given that the
food here is only vaguely Asian and service slow, this cafe's tagline of 'Fast Asian,' de-
serves a giggle. The food, however - from pulled-pork wraps to Asian-influenced salads
with tempeh or tofu - is worth the wait. The outdoor seating makes you feel like you're
having a country picnic.
Mijita's MEXICAN$$$
(310 A St, Eastsound; mains $13-22; 4-9pm Wed-Sun) When the Oaxacan guy at the table
next to you can't stop raving about the food, it's gotta be good. Even if Mexican isn't
your fuerte, it's difficult to go wrong in this creative, outdoor-indoor restaurant with its
rustic Mexican furnishings and fairy-lit garden slap-bang in the middle of Eastsound.
Ooh and aah over the Mexican chef's family recipes like slow-braised short ribs with
blackberry mole or the vegetarian quinoa cakes with mushrooms, chevre, almonds and
pipian - everything is even better on your plate than it sounds on the menu.
Doe Bay Café NORTHWESTERN$$$
MAP
(mains $14-26; breakfast, lunch & dinner Thu-Mon) Religiously sustainable, Doe Bay
has its own organic garden, a tight network of trusted farm suppliers and a damned good
chef. Few things on the planet are better than the pizza topped with locally 'foraged'
mushrooms.
Inn at Ship Bay SEAFOOD$$$

( 877-276-7296; www.innatshipbay.com ; 326 Olga Rd; mains $17-28; 5:30-11pm Tue-Sat)
Locals unanimously rate this place as the best fine dining experience on the island. The
chefs work overtime preparing everything from scratch using the freshest island ingredi-
ents. Seafood is the specialty and it's served in an attractive 1860s orchard house a
couple of miles south of Eastsound. There's also an on-site 11-room hotel (doubles $175
to $195).
