Eating
You'll find a surprising variety of good eating places in the small settlement of East-
sound. Elsewhere there are restaurants and cafes in Doe Bay, Olga, Rosario, Deer Harbor
and Orcas Village.
Rose's Bakery & Cafe CAFE$
(382 Prune Alley, Eastsound; breakfast $4-13; 8:30am-6pm Mon-Sat) Go where the locals go
for fresh baked goods and French- influenced dishes like baked eggs with Gruyère, pain
perdu (French toast) or a thick slab of homemade wholewheat bread with gouda cheese
and sliced apples. There's plenty of seating in the bright restaurant or get baked goods
and sandwiches to go at the attached deli and shop.
Cafe Olga CAFE$
MAP
(11 Point Lawrence Rd, Olga; mains $9-12; 9am-6pm Mon-Fri, to 8pm Sat & Sun, closed Wed Mar-
Apr) The definitive Orcas hangout is this quiet and isolated cafe-art gallery in the three-
building settlement of Olga, on the island's secluded eastern saddlebag. Living up to the
hype, the scones, cinnamon buns and pies here are stupendous - perfect if you've just
busted a gut cycling up and down Mt Constitution.
