New Leaf Cafe MODERN AMERICAN$$$
$$$
( 360-376-2200; Main St, Eastsound; mains $18-30; brunch Sat & Sun, lunch Mon-Fri, dinner
Tue-Sun) Two words: crab cakes. Throw in some dijonaise sauce and pecans and you
might want to think about postponing your ferry till next week. Complement those crab
cakes with smoked-bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin and you'll probably find the financial
investment worth it.
Drinking
Island Hoppin' Brewery BREWPUB
( www.islandhoppinbrewery.com ; 33 Hope Lane, Eastsound; 4-9pm Tue-Sun) The location just
off Mt Baker Rd near the airport makes this new brewery hard to find but the locals sure
know it's there - this is the place to go to enjoy six changeable brews on tap while mak-
ing friends with those islanders who enjoy beer. There's often live music on weekends.
Shopping
No malls, but some interesting local crafts might leave you departing with more than you
arrived with. Tiny Eastsound has a very browsable collection of shops from books to
crafts and everything in between.
