Lonesome Cove CABIN$$$
MAP
( 360-378-4477; www.lonesomecove.com ; cabins from $180) Not much has changed since
this collection of cabins, tucked into a magnificent cove, was a 1940s-era salmon-fishing
camp. It's got a bit of Hemingway-esque salt-of-the-earth romance, a lot of isolation and
a very silly black labrador to keep tails wagging. All this makes it popular, so it can be
booked up to a year in advance in July and August.
Olympic Lights B&B B&B$$$
MAP
( 360-378-3186; www.olympiclights.com ; 146 Starlight Way; r $155-165) Once the centerpiece
of a 320-acre estate, this splendidly restored 1895 farmhouse now hosts an equally for-
midable B&B that stands on an open bluff facing the snow-coated Olympic Mountains.
The four rooms are imaginatively named Garden, Ra, Heart and Olympic; sunflowers ad-
orn the garden and the hearty breakfasts include homemade buttermilk biscuits.
Friday Harbor House HOTEL$$$
$$$
( 360-378-8455; www.fridayharborhouse.com ; 130 West St, Friday Harbor; r with/without view
$309/269; ) Friday Harbor's most exclusive lodging is a modern boutique hotel
with great views over the harbor. All 20 rooms have a fireplace, open-plan bathroom/
Jacuzzi tub and other upscale niceties, and the whole place exudes a surgical level of
cleanliness.
Eating
Market Chef DELI$
(225 A St, Friday Harbor; 10am-6pm) Welcome to a San Juan Island legend. Eat-in or
take-out options such as sandwiches, salads and tacos are rustled up rapidly and come
with unusual infusions. All are made with local ingredients. You might have to fight for a
place to sit - it's that popular.
