( 8519-4332; btwn South End & Sally Peachie; mains US$6-12.50; noon-10pm) Perched on
an isolated point on the east side of the island, this colorful and airy restaurant serves up
delicious plates that you won't find on the seemingly photocopied menus of other local es-
tablishments. Try the mofongo - garlic-infused mashed plantains topped with seafood. It
also has some great-value rooms upstairs.

( 8650-6811; Sally Peachie; mains US$7.50-10.50; noon-9pm) Eat at your Corn Island
mom's house. You will sit right outside the mother chef's home, under the palms with a
cricket serenade, and taste kingfish braised in tomato sauce, shrimp sautéed in garlic, and
lobster al gusto (to your liking). She makes rundown upon request. Order it a day in ad-
vance.

( 2575-1191; contiguo Muelle, Brig Bay; mains US$5-16; 7am-11pm) It's no wonder that
this is the locals' preferred fish house. It's bright and clean, with tablecloths and wooden
furniture, and great views of the action around the dock. The seafood soup is tasty when
you mix in a dollop of the scalding chili sauce and wash it down with an icy Toña.

(Sally Peachie; dishes US$6.50-10-50; 7am-10pm) Lobster, shrimp and fish come grilled,
garlic sautéed, fried and smothered in tomato sauce. It's served with ice-cold beers on the
concrete porch or inside the dining room humming with fantastic reggae music. The food
is just OK, but the ambience makes up for it.

(Southwest Bay; dishes US$8-15; 8am-10pm) The first resort on the island is quickly losing
its canary yellow, screened-porch luster, but its thatched pagodas set on a magnificent
stretch of sand remain great spots to eat shrimp and lobster in coconut sauce and bob your
head to reggae tunes.
