nically Buža I) ahead; just above it, notice the little statue of St. Blaise, Dubrovnik's patron,
enjoy some shade under the turret.
Rounding the bend, look left to see the facade of the Jesuit St. Ignatius Church. Notice
that the homes in this area are much larger. These are aristocratic palaces—VIPs wanted to
live as close as possible to the Cathedral and Rector's Palace, which are just below—and

Continue around the wall, passing two more snack bars (the second with pay WCs) and
more quake-ruined houses. Eventually you'll pop out at a high plateau, where The City
Walls—Continuation signs lead down to the next part. From here, if you're bushed, you can
bail out for the exit. (In the little plant-filled square at the bottom of these stairs is a sweet
cat hospice, with a donation box for feeding some homeless feline residents.) But the final
stretch of our wall walk is shorter than the other two, and mostly level.
Part 3—Old Port to Plo č e Gate: Continuing along the wall, you'll pass near the en-
trance to the skippable Maritime Museum, then walk along the top of the wall overlooking

nomic lifeline for town—watch the steady stream of cruise-ship tenders injecting dose after
dose of tourist cash into town. As you curl around the far side of the port, you'll see the
outdoor tables of 360°, a cocktail bar/restaurant catering to high-rolling yachters. While it
looks appealing, it's a very exclusive place that frowns on would-be visitors who dress like
normal people. Gussied-up jet-set diners enjoy coming here for good but extremely expens-
ive designer fare. (One local told me, “The food is great—just eat a hamburger before you
go.”)
Just past 360°, you come to the stairs back down to where you started this wall walk.
Nice work. Now head on down and reward yourself with an ice-cream cone...and some
shade.
The “Other” Wall Climb: Your ticket for the City Walls also includes the Fort of St.
LawrencejustoutsidetheOldTown(validsamedayonly;fortdescribedon here ).Ifyou've
already bought a 30-kn ticket there, show it when buying your main wall ticket and you'll
pay only the difference.

In the Middle Ages, Dubrovnik's monasteries flourished. And, as a part of their charity
work, the monks at this monastery took on the responsibility of serving as pharmacists
