MoMA's fine dining offering is elegant without trying too hard. Seasonal ingredients are
artfully combined to yield unexpected dishes: say, chorizo-crusted codfish with white
cocoa-bean purée. Four-course set meals cost from $108. The Bar Room at the Modern
offers more casual dining.

Down in the vaulted cellars of Grand Central, the fabled
(and just restored) Oyster Bar draws midtown office
workers for lunch and seafood-lovers for dinner, who
choose from a staggering list of daily catches including
barramundi and steamed Maine lobster. Prices are mod-
erate to expensive, but you can always choose chowder
or a sandwich from the counter.
