one building on the waterfront and a second, larger building behind the hotel. Great
budget rooms share a spacious sea-view patio, and the lush camping area has perfect sun-
set views. Kitchen, laundry service and a cafe are all thrown in. The only thing missing is
water in the pool.

Ideally located between one of the town's most lush and pleasant plazoletas and the
ocean, this superbly welcoming family-run spot will have you feeling like kin within
minutes of arrival. From the outside, it's indistinguishable from any number of dismissible
Peruvian guesthouses, but the great Mediterranean-tilted rooms offer a pleasant surprise
upon popping your bags down.
Best of all? The family makes addictive homemade cremoladas (Italian ices; S2),
which are listed on the daily-changing menu complete with their requisite health benefits
(cappuccino and coconut are extraordinary).
Hostal Caballito de Totora $$

the suites here are the best single rooms in Huanchaco, decked in modern motifs that even
outdo Trujillo for trendiness (not hard to do, but these wouldn't be out of place in Miami).
They offer perfect sea views, wide, circular tubs and private patios to boot.
A cozy bar and a lobby pier photo add to the ambience. It's the one hotel in Huanchaco
that feels truly boutique.
