Differentiation of the Northern Tablelands (area B) followed. The Victorian part
of the Great Dividing Range (area E 1 ) differentiated from the NSW Tablelands,
whereas the North Coast (area J) differentiated from the coastal and tableland re-
gions to the south. Finally, areas in central and southern NSW differentiated, with
the Blue Mountains and adjacent coast (areas I and K) differentiating from the
central and southern tablelands (areas C and D). This scenario suggests that sev-
eral clades within the “blue ash” had already evolved before these vicariance pro-
cesses occurred, that some taxa that are widespread today may have been histor-
ically widespread but failed to differentiate, and that some taxa dispersed to other
areas.
