In-Depth Information
( 0211-253036; www.chrismarhotels.com ; Los Angeles Blvd; r incl breakfast from
ZMW500; ) Something of an oasis (except when there's a wedding or confer-
ence on, and on some weekend afternoons) located on a large grassy property away from
the dusty city centre streets, Chrismar remains a good midrange option even if some of the
rooms are calling for attention. Go for one of the colorfully painted 'African' style rooms
rather than the older standard hotel-style ones with carpeting and bland furnishings.
The Cattleman's Grill ( Click here ) restaurant and bar are popular with expats and
there's a good gym and shaded pool area.

( 0211-253503; doreen@zamcom.ac.zm; Church Rd; r ZMW250; ) Although it
looks like a school built in the '70s or earlier, this small motel-style complex has simple
spick-and-span rooms. There's a shady courtyard/car park with resident turkeys strutting
their stuff out the front. Conferences and wedding receptions aren't uncommon on week-
ends so it's best to check with reception beforehand as these can be loud and raucous af-
fairs.

( 0211-239541; www.nenaguesthouse.co.zm ; 126 Masansa Cl, Rhodes Park; s/d incl
breakfast ZMW250/300; ) Friendly Nena's has four clean but rundown rooms, so
peruse more than one if possible (keeping in mind that some have a shower, others a
bath). There's an on-site restaurant, a leafy patio and pool area and it's well located in the
Rhodes Park district, not far to Cairo Rd and Levy Junction Shopping Centre.

( 0211-255302; shaazam@microlink.zm; 1012 Church Rd; r ZMW350; ) A small
compound not really geared for foreign travellers but nevertheless a secure and well-kept
spot within walking distance of Levy Junction Shopping Centre and Cairo Rd - that is if
you don't mind walking the narrow dirt shoulder of busy Church Rd. There are seven
rooms in total but the two out back are a slight step up from the others; all have flat-screen
TVs and there's a small lawn and bar in front.
