its purple and orange livery and shadowy interior, Kaya Papaya has more than a touch of
Afro-chic; it's matched by a Thai-accented menu of zesty salads, pizza and Malawian fare
like butterfish with nshima . If you are still hungry, you should try the fruit pancake and
homemade cakes.

fused with African sounds and the lapping waves of the lake a few feet away. The alfresco
lounge bar is a great place to enjoy organic salads, breakfasts, hamburgers, baguette sand-
wiches and stir-fries. The staff may even be dancing!

ing it, this simple eatery has vibrant red walls and sits on the main drag by the harbour.
Authentic Malawian fare like fresh fish, beef, nshima , beans and rice.
The Peoples Supermarket on the main drag sells toiletries, biscuits and milk.

There's nowhere to change money but there are two ATMs at the top of the hill (50m be-
fore you reach Big Blue Star hostel). While they accept Visa they don't accept Master-
Card. Alternatively, some of the lodges accept credit cards, US currency and travellers
