ing with frangipani trees and palms, with manicured lawns tumbling down to the spear-
mint water, Njaya has tasteful family-sized chalets up on the hill, cosy reed huts, and
striking stone cottages right by the lake. Think wicker chairs, choice linen and cool floors.
Njaya also has a restaurant whose verandah is the perfect sundowner spot; it serves
great barbecued chambo and chips, bluefish and bubblefish.

( 01-352362; s/d MK4000/5000; ) Ilala looks run down on the outside but its
rooms, with cream interiors and denim-blue trim, are fresh, spacious and have large tiled
bathrooms as well as TVs, mozzie nets, bureaus and fans. Not really a traveller haunt but
peaceful all the same. Has its own private beach and there's a restaurant serving Malawian
staples.
