Bus & Chapa
The transport stand (known locally as 'Romoza') is at the northern end of Avenida
Eduardo Mondlane. Chapas run frequently to/from Nicoadala (Mtc30, 45 minutes) at the
junction with the main road.
Nampula To Nampula, a Grupo Mecula (Mtc480, 10 hours) bus departs daily at 4.30am.
Several vehicles also run daily to Mocuba (Mtc200, two to three hours), from where you
can get onward transport to Nampula via Alto Molócuè, or to the Malawi border at Mil-
ange (Melosa). Another option is to take a chapa to Nicoadala, and from there, catch the
Beira-Nampula TCO (
82-304 8163, 23-354822; tcobeira@tdm.co.mz) bus; advance
bookings are essential.
Gurúè To Gurúè (Mtc300, six to seven hours), there's a bus daily at 4.30am; buy your
ticket the day before. Even with a ticket, it's best to show up early at the bus stand to be
sure of a seat.
Beira To Beira (Mtc650, 10 hours), there's a daily bus leaving by 5am. Alternatively,
TCO passes Nicoadala from about 1pm, but advance booking is necessary.
Chimoio To Chimoio (Mtc550, eight hours), Maning Nice departs daily at 3am from their
office on Avenida Eduardo Mondlane, about 1km past the Romoza transport stand and on
the opposite side of the road.
Zalala Chapas Offline map Google map to Zalala (Mtc25, one hour) depart Quelimane from
next to the central market, at the corner of Avenida Heróis da Libertação Nacional &
Avenida 25 de Junho.
ZALALA BEACH
The closest beach to Quelimane is Zalala Beach, about 30km northeast of town. Long and wide, with a row of
fringing palms and a large village nearby, it's an ideal day excursion for getting a taste of local Zambézian life. The
drive out from Quelimane is bumpy and scenic, through extensive coconut plantations formerly owned by Compan-
hia da Zambézia.
Residencial Sonho do Mar (r Mtc750) , at the main junction just a few minutes walk from the chapa terminus, is
the best budget option, with small, clean rooms and meals on order.
