In-Depth Information
Traffic in and around Como tends to be intense. From Milan, take the A9 motorway and
turn off at Monte Olimpino. The S leads east to Lecco and west to Varese. The roads
around the lake are narrow and, on weekends especially, can be hair-raising.
Most parking is metered in Como and there are several covered car parks.
TRAIN
Como's main train station (Como San Giovanni) is served from Milan's Stazione Centrale
or Porta Garibaldi (€4.55 to €13 depending on type of train, 30 to 60 minutes, at least
hourly) that continue into Switzerland. If travelling between Como and Lugano or Bellin-
zona, take the regional trains (on the Ticino side, look for the S10 train), as the long-dis-
tance trains between Milan and Zürich cost more. Trains from Milan's Stazione Nord
(€4.10, one hour, hourly) use Como's lakeside Stazione FNM (aka Como Nord Lago).
