Freestone Inn Located at the upper end of the Methow Valley outside
the community of Mazama, the Freestone Inn is second only to Sun Mountain
Lodge in its luxury and many amenities. The inn's main building, which sits on
the shore of a small lake and has a superb view of the mountains, is a huge log
lodge complete with massive stone fireplace and a cathedral ceiling. Guest rooms
are thoughtfully designed with gas fireplaces and double whirlpool tubs that
open to the bedroom so you can lie in the tub and still see the fireplace. All in
all these are some of the most memorable rooms in the state. For more privacy,
opt for one of the cabins. Families may want to rent one of the large lakeside
lodges. The restaurant is one of the finest in the valley (see “Where to Dine,”
below, for details). In addition to amenities listed below, the inn also has cross-
country ski rentals and lessons (ski trails are adjacent), sleigh rides, and a fly-
fishing and swimming lake (ice-skating in winter).
