IN WINTHROP
Hotel Rio Vista As with all the other buildings in downtown Winthrop,
the Rio Vista looks as if it had been built for a Hollywood Western movie set.
Behind the false front you'll find modern rooms with pine furnishings and an
understated country decor. Step out onto your balcony and you'll have a view of
the confluence of the Chewuch and Methow rivers and are likely to see deer and
bald eagles and many other species of birds. A hot tub overlooks the river. The
Rio Vista also rents out a loft cabin up the valley near Mazama.

River Run Inn Located only a few hundred yards from downtown
Winthrop, this motel on the bank of the Methow River feels as if it is miles from
town. The motel rooms all have balconies overlooking the river, with the moun-
tains visible across the valley. Rustic peeled-log furniture made by a local crafts-
man gives the large motel rooms a Western feel. Aside from the riverside
location, the best reason to stay here is the small indoor swimming pool and hot
tub. The River Run Inn also rents out cabins and a large house.

Sun Mountain Lodge If you're looking for resort luxuries and
proximity to hiking, cross-country skiing, and mountain-biking trails, Sun
Mountain Lodge should be your first choice in the region. Perched on a moun-
taintop with grand views of the Methow Valley and the North Cascades, this
luxurious lodge captures the spirit of the West in both its breathtaking setting
and its rustic design. In the lobby, flagstone floors and stone fireplaces lend a
classically Western style. Most guest rooms feature rustic Western furnishings
and views of the mountains. The rooms in the Gardiner wing have balconies and
slightly better views than those in the main lodge. If seclusion is what you're
after, opt for one of the Patterson Lake cabins. The lodge's main dining room
serves superb Northwest cuisine amid views that will take your breath away (see
“Where to Dine,” below, for details). The lounge has the same great view. In
addition to amenities listed below, the resort also is right on the valley's ski-trail
system and has a ski shop, ski and snowshoe rentals, a ski school, horseback and
sleigh rides, an ice-skating pond, lawn games, and a playground.

WolfRidge Resort Set on 60 acres at the edge of a pasture on both
the Methow River and the cross-country ski trails, this lodge, with its modern
log buildings, is a great choice in winter or summer. The town houses and suites,
which have full kitchens, are big enough for families, and the smaller rooms are
fine for couples. The three new cabins are the most romantic and have jetted
tubs. The pool, game room, and a playground together make this a good spot
for a family vacation. However, the wide-open ranchlike feel and proximity to
the ski trails also make this a good bet for active couples.
