Converting raw
format point
cloud files
Once you select the native file from your scanner and then agree to index the file, you'll see
the Point Cloud File Indexing dialog box (Figure 21.7). Choose the Start Indexing button to
begin the process. While this is happening, you can continue to work on other things within
Revit. The default location for the indexed file is the same location as the original file. The new
files are usually about half the size of the original, so make sure your drive has enough space
before you begin indexing.

indexing the
point cloud to
an rCs file
Once the point cloud indexing is complete, you'll need to insert your new RCS fileā€”the file
we have provided with this chapter's download material. If you closed the Link Point Cloud
dialog box, go back to the Insert tab in the ribbon and click Point Cloud. In the Link
Point Cloud dialog box, choose the Files Of Type drop-down list, select Point Clouds (*.rcs), and
browse to the downloaded point cloud file (Figure 21.8). You have the option to insert this RCS
file as you would any other linked Revit or CAD file. In our case, we chose Origin To Origin.
