Maes-y-Garth

( 01690-710441; www.maes-y-garth.co.uk ; Lon Muriau, off A470; r £60-85; ) Just across the river
and a field from the township, this newly built home has earned itself a legion of fans. In-
side you'll find a warm welcome and three quietly stylish guest rooms with gorgeous
views; perhaps the nicest is Room 4, which has its own balcony.

Afon Gwyn
( 01690-710442; www.guest-house-betws-y-coed.com ; A470, Coed-y-Celyn; r £80-118; ) Down in the
valley, this old stone house has been skilfully converted into a grand boutique guesthouse.
The decor is faultlessly tasteful, with hushed tones, white-painted wood panelling, glitter-
ing chandeliers, and bathrooms bedecked in Italian tiles and marble. While all the rooms
are spacious, the Alice Suite is massive.

Tŷ Gwyn Hotel
OFFLINE MAP
( 01690-710383; www.tygwynhotel.co.uk ; A5; r £56-130; ) This atmospheric ex-coaching
house has been welcoming guests since 1636, its venerable age borne out by misshapen
rooms, low ceilings and exposed beams. Predictably, not all rooms have en suites, but all
are attractively decorated; one has a four-poster.
HISTORIC HOTEL ££
Craig-y-Dderwen Riverside Hotel
( 01690-710293; www.snowdoniahotel.com ; Holyhead Rd; s/d from £105/120; ) There's a
slightly frumpy feel to this large faux-Tudor hotel, yet all the rooms have been freshened
up and the setting is idyllic, right by the river near the Waterloo Bridge. Don't be sur-
prised if your standard room is massive or has a four-poster bed; premium prices are re-
served for river-view rooms.
