Arusha Coffee Lodge LODGE $$$
( 027-250 0630; www.elewana.com ; s/d US$375/500; ) Set smack in the
middle of a shade-grown coffee plantation and elegant through and through this is one of
the most talked about properties in Arusha. The gorgeous standard rooms have split-level
floors making them feel like suites and the restaurant has few peers. The only knock is that
traffic noise is loud. It's along the highway just west of town.
Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge LODGE $$$
( 0754-324193; www.moivaro.com ; s/d/tr US$185/250/335; ) Very near, but
seemingly far from Arusha, with cosy cottages, each with its own fireplace, and extensive
gardens, this place is justifiably popular as a pre- and post-safari stop. With 42 rooms, it
can get pretty busy. It's signposted off Moshi Rd northeast of the centre.
Meserani Snake Park CAMPGROUND $
( 027-253 8282; www.meseranisnakepark.com ; camping incl admission to snake park
US$10; ) This overlander-oriented place has good facilities, including hot showers, a
bar-restaurant with cheap meals and a vehicle repair shop. It's 25km west of Arusha along
the Dodoma road.
Masai Camp CAMPGROUND $
( 0754-507131; Old Moshi Rd; camping US$5, banda per person with shared bathroom
outside US$10, s/d with shared bathroom US$15/25; ) A regular stop for overland
trucks, it's noisy and dusty, but facilities are good. Around the expansive grounds you'll
find hot showers; pool tables; a restaurant (Tsh6500 to Tsh11,000) serving pizzas, sand-
wiches and even Mexican until late; and a happening bar. Don't plan on sleeping on Friday
or Saturday since the disco goes all night.
