restaurant with fast service and a Far East meets the Wild West decor. It's hidden behind the
post office.
Big Bite INDIAN $$
(Swahili St; meals Tsh8000-12,000; lunch & dinner Wed-Mon; ) One of the oldest
and most reliable Indian restaurants in Arusha. Don't let the modest premises fool you.
Khan's Barbecue BARBECUE $
(Mosque St; mixed grill from Tsh6000; from 6.30pm) This Arusha institution ('Chicken
on the Bonnet') is an auto-spares store by day and the best known of many earthy roadside
barbecues around the market area by night. It lays out a heaping spread of grilled, skewered
meat and salads.
Universal Classic Restaurant TANZANIAN $
(Swahili St; meals Tsh2000-5000, buffet Tsh5000; breakfast, lunch & dinner Sun-Fri) A
bigger than average selection of local foods. Either order from the menu or walk the line and
sample a bunch from the buffet tray.
McMoody's BURGERS $
(Sokoine Rd; lunch & dinner Tue-Sun) A perennial favourite for burgers (especially
chicken burgers), it was closed for renovation during our research.
CLOCK TOWER AREA
Café Bamboo INTERNATIONAL $
(Boma Rd; meals Tsh6000-12,000; breakfast, lunch & dinner; ) Sort of a budget
version of Africafe across the street, Bamboo has a bigger menu of light Tanzanian and
European meals, plus some less-successful Asian options. For something unusual, try the
'enchilada', a stuffed chapatti dusted with parmesan cheese.
Arusha Masai Café PIZZERIA $
(Pemba St; meals Tsh6500-12,000; lunch & dinner) Popular with locals and resident
muzungu (white person), this simple garden spot makes what many will tell you is Arusha's
