pizza. The serve-yourself style is so laid-back you don't get a bill, just tell them what
you've eaten and they'll tot it up at the end.
Cap'n Jaspers
MAP GOOGLE MAP
( www.capn-jaspers.co.uk ; Whitehouse Pier, Quay Rd; snacks £2-5; 8am-midnight) Unique, quirky and
slightly insane, this Barbican institution has been delighting tourists and locals alike for
decades. Motorised gadgets whirr around and the teaspoons are attached to the counter by
chains. The menu is of the burger and bacon butty school - trying to eat the 'half a yard of
hot dog' is a Plymouth rite of passage. Or scoff a fresh crab roll, the filling could have
been caught by the bloke sitting next to you; his boat's probably tied up alongside.

ers are often queuing out the door signals this is a top-quality 'chippy'. Either eat in (in a
pocket-sized dining space), take away (watch out for diving seagulls), or ferry your meal
to the neighbouring Dolphin pub, to tuck in as you down a drink.

chef Gary Rhodes' new eatery boasts a prime site in the middle of the Hoe overlooking
Plymouth's vast bay. Dishes are complex, classy and often unusual: smoked mackerel lin-
