Boutique Hotel de la F onte This hotel was one of the mor e interesting accom-
modations options I could find in to wn, a beautiful gar den hotel with ample gr ounds
and excellent food. F rom the str eet it looks like any w ell-to-do residential home, and,
indeed, staying ther e feels like a w eekend sojourn with y our Argentine cousins. The
rooms are a little old-fashioned with lo w beds and heavy cur tains, but it's the rambling
garden that makes the place. A marble fountain trickles in the shady corners. A r ed-tiled
patio overlooks a medium-siz e pool with tall palm tr ees acting as sentries o ver the hot
tub. The Italian owners are talented chefs, which comes through in the incredible menu
that can be enjo yed in intimate corners of the gar den. Boutique H otel de la F onte is
located on a quiet, residential street just a 5-minute walk fr om the downtown area.

Esturión Hotel & L odge Hotel Esturión is spacious, w ell equipped, and just a
10-minute walk fr om the to wn center. The main building has the look of a modern,
tropical schoolhouse, but, in general, the facilities hav e a pleasing aesthetic. The huge
pool and surr ounding grounds have a Caribbean feel, though the safari-style staff uni-
forms are a little o ver-the-top. Rooms are decent, if a little functional and dated, and
some have pleasant balconies. The lobby bar is very stylish and appealing. Service can be
patchy, however; some staff members are helpful and efficient, and others are plain rude.
Do not expect much English. The grounds are as expansive as the breakfast buffet, which
is an excellent spread, and the food in general is good—particularly the asado (Argentine
barbecue).

Hotel Saint George Finds Undoubtedly the finest hotel located in the to wn
center, the Saint George is a modern cream-colored block with delightful bird of paradise
plants outside and an inviting, spacious lobb y of marble floors and striped furnitur e
inside. Recently renovated, the new master rooms are much larger than the old standard
rooms and wor th the extra $10 (£6.80). S leek flatscreen TVs go nicely with the stylish
black minibars, while outside you'll find old telephone operators' desks and pianos grac-
ing corridors that lead to a lush, ample cour tyard with a large kidney-shaped pool. The
bathrooms are big, with glass-enclosed showers and separate tubs. Service can be patchy
but is more than made up for with an excellent breakfast buffet. The family-owned hotel
has one of the best eateries in to wn, known as La Esquina, and is located on one of the
principal streets, a short stroll from many restaurants, stores, and the bus terminal.
