short waterfront. Most of the town's center is walkable, a few blocks from the beach. It's
an ideal location for families or couples seeking a quiet vacation. The town is also blessed
with a large forest reserve called the
Bosque Vivero Dunícola Florentino Ameghino
to
the south, which helps to limit dev elopment. Jetties protect its shor eline, keeping the
waters tranquil along the
balnearios,
or priv ate beach kiosks peppering the shor e. With
the tranquillity come decidedly higher prices than y ou'll find in Mar del Plata.

WHAT TO SEE & DO
Beyond the beach, ther e is not much to do in M iramar. You can see most of the city 's
non-aquatic sites within an hour . Before you begin your walk, keep in mind that ev en-
numbered streets and av enues r un parallel to the ocean, and odd-number ed ones r un
perpendicular. The city's
Plaza Central
is really four squares in one, surrounded by calles
28, 24, 23, and 21. In the middle is a statue of
General Rudecindo Alvarado,
a hero in
the Argentine independence mo vement from Spain. Other statues and busts of impor-
tant national and local figur es are scattered throughout the pine- and palm-tr ee-planted
plaza. Kids will find plenty to do at the various local playgrounds or on the small merry-
go-round nearby.
