In-Depth Information
When you create a new template, you need to save it with a unique name. As with
other fi lenames, use only alphanumeric characters, do not use spaces or special charac-
ters, and do not start the name with a number. If you create more than one main template
in a site, choose a name that clearly identifi es the template. The template fi le is saved
with the .dwt extension in a default folder named Templates in the site's local root folder.
If the Templates folder does not already exist, Dreamweaver creates one. You can view all
the templates for a site in the Assets panel when the Templates button is selected.
Creating a Template

click the Make Template button in the Templates list (or in the Assets panel, click
the Templates button, and then click the New Template button or click File on the
Application bar, click New, click Blank Template, click HTML template in the Template
Type box, click a layout in the Layout box, and then click the Create button).
• Type a name for the template, and then save the template.
• If you created a new template from the Assets panel, select the template in the Assets

Common category of the Insert panel.

Gage is developing a series of new pages with information about classic music and
the tribute band scene in the United States. You'll create a template for these pages based
on the tickets.html page, which has the most basic layout of all the existing pages and is
the easiest to modify.
To create a template from the tickets.html page:
1. If you took a break after the previous session, make sure that the NextBest Fest
site is open and the workspace is reset to the default Designer configuration and
close any open pages, if necessary.
2. Open the tickets.html page in Design view. You'll modify this page to create the
template layout.
3. In the Common category of the Insert panel, click the Templates button arrow ,
and then click the Make Template button. The Save As Template dialog box
opens. See Figure 6-15.
